Presentation of the profession of jeweler

The jeweler is a professional of the art, recognized as a craftsman. He uses one or more craftsmanship to design and give life to jewelry of all kinds (rings, necklaces, earrings, ornaments, brooches, etc.). He also frequently has to repair, restore and transform parts entrusted to him by customers.

The jeweler’s work consists of several stages: first, he must take into account the customer demand, relying on the budgetary, stylistic and temporal constraints that the latter imposes on him. Then he must choose what materials he will use for his creation. Then comes the sketch: the jeweler draws a draft of the future jewel, which he then validates to his client.

Once the agreement is received, he can move on to the realization: he creates the metal alloys, melts the metal, and gives it its final shape. He then works the jewels using tools to engrave it and sets it if necessary, with stones cut by a lapidary (or diamond dealer).

The jeweler must also, in parallel with the creation and restoration, be able to welcome customers, advise them, create a quote and ensure the sale of a jewelry product.
